Career

He qualified for the World Championship in 2002, knocking out Steve Davis in the final qualifying round. In the first round proper, he lost 6–10 to Graeme Dott. He twice reached ranking event quarter-finals — the 2003 Welsh Open[2] and the 2006 Malta Cup.

Hull is a solid <dfn style="border-bottom:1px dotted #0645AD; font-style:inherit;">break</dfn>-builder and has compiled 114 competitive <dfn style="border-bottom:1px dotted #0645AD; font-style:inherit;">centuries</dfn> during his career — as of July 2011, this is the 3rd highest amount for a player who has never featured in the elite top 16, behind Stuart Bingham(144) and Andy Hicks(130).[3] However, he once missed the final <dfn style="border-bottom:1px dotted #0645AD; font-style:inherit;">black</dfn> during a 147 attempt.[4]

A potentially-fatal viral infection kept him out of much of the 2003/2004 season. He was forced to pull out of qualifying for the 2007 World Championship, due to an irregular heartbeat thought to be linked to his past illness.[5] After a similar problem in 2008, he decided to retire from professional competition.[6]

Hull returned to competition in 2011, taking part in the Q School tournaments as he attempted to qualify for the 2011/2012 main tour. He successfully qualified for the main tour as one of the semi-finalists from the first Q School event.[7]
